SendmarcSendmarc & Obscure Technologies partner to strengthen email security
Cyberthreats are constantly becoming more sophisticated, and email remains a prime target for malicious actors, with a shocking 91% of cybercrimes starting with email attacks. While a traditional Secure Email Gateway (SEG) includes features like anti-Spam, which offers some internal protection, it often leaves external stakeholders vulnerable to impersonation attacks, potentially leading to significant consequences.
That's why we're thrilled to announce our new partnership with Obscure Technologies, a leading distributor with a nine-year track record of helping MSPs and Value-Added Resellers (VARs) enhance email security. Together, we're committed to building a strong email security environment and making the Internet a safer place.
A shared vision for enhanced email security
Obscure Technologies' dedication to enabling digital asset protection supports Sendmarc's mission to make the Internet a safer place. Their commitment to investing in innovative technology and maintaining a strong engineering team aligns perfectly with our focus on delivering a world-class Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance (DMARC) management platform.
The addition of Sendmarc to our extensive reservoir of globally leading vendors marks a significant step forward for both Obscure Technologies and the African market. Sendmarc's customer-centric approach aligns perfectly with our commitment to delivering cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions. By working closely with their customers, they ensure that business success goes hand in hand with robust email security, protecting organizations against today's ever-evolving cyber threats. – Francois van Hirtum, Managing Director, Obscure Technologies
This partnership expands Sendmarc's reach to a larger network of MSPs and VARs, allowing more businesses to access critical email security solutions. For Obscure Technologies' partners, this collaboration provides a single access point to a comprehensive range of email security tools, simplifying the entire DMARC management process.
The email security gap: Why DMARC is essential
Obscure Technologies hosted a launch event in February with their partners where Sendmarc's COO, Kieran Frost, spoke to the audience, explaining the vulnerabilities in email and how they're taken advantage of by cybercriminals. He highlighted that while SEGs are crucial for internal protection, they don't address the risk of external impersonation, potentially exposing stakeholders to significant harm.
Kieran also showed the damaging impact of email impersonation with real-world examples. He included a case from 2016, where a CEO impersonation led to a $47 million fraudulent transfer, and the South African Railways incident from last year, where a phishing scam resulted in losses totaling over $1 million.
These incidents underscore the urgent need for robust email authentication mechanisms like DMARC. – Kieran Frost, COO at Sendmarc
DMARC is the industry-standard protocol for reducing email spoofing and phishing. It allows organizations to specify how receiving email servers should handle emails that seem to come from their domain but fail authentication checks.
Unlocking the DMARC opportunity for MSPs & VARs
At the event, Sendmarc's Chief Sales Officer, Jason Roos, also spoke, outlining the immense market opportunity that DMARC presents for MSPs and VARs. DMARC adoption rates are low globally, leaving most domains unprotected – 70% in South Africa, 55% in the United States, 66% in the United Kingdom, and 63% in the European Union – there's a significant untapped market waiting to be served.

Sendmarc is the ideal partner for MSPs and VARs looking to capitalize on this opportunity. Our partner-first DMARC management platform allows partners to:
